BENEFITS OF CBD.

We believe that CBD - or Cannabidiol, extracted from the hemp plant - is one of the most effective ways to support your health and well-being, naturally. The hemp plant offers a wide range of benefits and is used around the world as food and medicine. Our Guide to CBD is here to help you discover and learn more.

CBD —or Cannabidiol— is known for its calming and soothing effects on the mind and body. CBD can be taken orally with CBD oil drops (or edibles like CBD chocolate) or applied topically (e.g. CBD balm, CBD salve, CBD cream) to promote a wide range of benefits, from helping you to relax, unwind and find some calm to restoring your balance and improving your sleep from the inside out.

What is CBD - Cannabidiol?

How Do You Take CBD?

CBD stands for Cannabidiol. It is a Cannabinoid; a naturally occurring chemical found in most Cannabis plants. It’s one of at least 130 cannabinoids that scientists have discovered so far.

Cannabinoids interact with the naturally occurring endocannabinoids in the human body to help restore balance and promote well-being.

CBD is found in cannabis plants. Cannabis was one of the first plants to be cultivated and used as a medicine thousands of years ago. Even Queen Victoria used cannabis!

Cannabis, hemp, and marijuana are all terms you may hear used for plants in the Cannabaceae family, but there are differences between them.

Hemp refers to varieties of cannabis that contain 0.3% or less THC content (by dry weight), whereas marijuana can contain up to 30% THC content. This is why people usually talk about using the hemp plant to create CBD rather than “proper” cannabis (marijuana).

In the UK, CBD is legal for use, providing it contains 0% THC.
Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and Cannabidiol (CBD) are two primary cannabinoids (naturally occurring chemicals) that are found naturally in the cannabis plant. Whilst these powerful cannabinoids come from the same plant species, what they do varies.

On a molecular level, THC and CBD have exactly the same atomic structure, however the arrangement of these elements is different which affects how CBD and THC interact with receptors in the body.

THC is the main psychoactive component of the cannabis plant and is known to give you a mind altering ‘high’ among many other things, whereas CBD has been shown to have a huge range of therapeutic potential without causing the psychotropic effects or ‘high’ experience.

Our bodies are essentially hard-wired to react to cannabinoids through a complex system that runs throughout the human body. Scientists discovered that we have a vast network of receptors, enzymes and chemicals spread throughout the human body called the Endocannabinoid System (ECS).

In humans, it’s the third largest system and vital to human health, regulating our heart, digestive, endocrine, immune, nervous, and reproductive systems. Put simply, it maintains balance (homeostasis) and our body needs things to be stable in order to function properly.

Receptors at the end of our nerves respond to CBD compounds and other cannabinoids found in hemp to send messages around the body and change the way our cells talk to each other. This positively affects various bodily functions and behaviours including bringing about calming and balancing effects. We could geek out on the fascinating endocannabinoid system for hours.

CBD has the potential to do a lot for our bodies, inside and out. With millions of people now using CBD worldwide, the CBD industry is set to mirror the size of the vitamin industry by 2025. A testament to the healing power of hemp. Thanks to how CBD works inside our bodies, it helps brings us back into balance, so can support the body with many different things. Lots of people use it for its calming effects, others as an anti-inflammatory, and many to help them improve sleep.

We’re all unique and cannabinoids can have a varied effect on people because the endocannabinoid system helps regulate so many systems. It really depends on what your body needs at the time. This is why two peoples’ experience of using CBD can be so different and it’s important to find your own balance of how to use CBD.

There are recommendations on all of our products to help make finding your balance easier and you can always chat with us if you need more advice. It can also be inspiring and insightful to read other people’s personal experiences on how CBD has helped them.

One of the most popular ways to take CBD oil is sublingually (under the tongue). Taking a moment for yourself and holding CBD drops underneath your tongue for at least 60 seconds results in the quickest absorption through the tissues in the mouth and into the bloodstream. Using drops in your morning coffee or smoothie is also a great way to ingest CBD.

As well as orally, you can enjoy the benefits of CBD through the skin. Many people like to massage topical CBD products directly into the skin to help soothe aches and reduce mild inflammation, whilst still encouraging a feeling of calmness, wellness and vitality.

CBD is a journey personal to you so we encourage you to experiment with different CBD forms and routines. If you’re not sure where to start take check out our bestsellers.
