CBD, or cannabidiol, is one of 113 different known cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant and is non-intoxicating. Learn more in our Discover Guide to CBD.

Cannabinoids are naturally occurring chemical compounds found in plants - mainly in the cannabis plant. There are 113 known cannabinoids.

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and Cannabidiol (CBD) are the two primary cannabinoids that occur naturally in the cannabis plant. CBD is non-intoxicating, meaning that it does not change the state of mind of the person using it. THC is the main psychotrophic component of the cannabis plant and is known to give you a mind altering ‘high’ among many other things.

Truth be told – not much. Cannabis is the main plant and like many other plant species, it can be cultivated in many ways to create various sub-plants, with various names and uses. Essentially, hemp is cannabis grown differently (i.e closer together).

Here's the science: The three sub-species form the cannabis plant are; cannabis sativa, cannabis indica and cannabis ruderalis. Cannabis sativa and indica are the most commonly known sub-species that give us the different 'weed strains' people often talk about; sativa strains are known for their higher THC content and indica strains are known for being more mellow, with a wider variety of cannabinoid ratios. Hemp is simply cannabis sativa plants grown closely together, this causes the plants to grow extremely tall and strong, and naturally reduces the THC content too.

APOTHEM products are available without a prescription as they are not a form of medicinal cannabis. APOTHEM does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

APOTHEM is one of the Medical Cannabis Clinician's Society recommended brands that medical clinicians can recommend to their patients who may benefit from an over-the-counter product. Read more here.

A botanical is a substance, usually oil, obtained from a plant that's then used in food or cosmetic products

We advise that you consume APOTHEM CBD OIL DROPS by holding them under the tongue for around 60 seconds. This method allows the CBD oil to absorb into the bloodstream via tissues under the tongue. This is the quickest way to absorb CBD into the body. How many drops of CBD oil is personal to you and your journey but you should take no more than 70mg of CBD per day (approx 14 drops of a 10% strength CBD). Please see product pages for individual product recommendations.

Our range of APOTHEM BODY & SKIN products are designed to be used topically (e.g. CBD balm, CBD salve, CBD cream) and therefore the CBD is absorbed through your skin’s transdermal layer.

How much CBD to use depends on what APOTHEM product you are using e.g. CBD oil oral drops, CBD chocolate, CBD skin balm, or CBD bath salts. Usage advice (and dosage, where applicable) can be found on each individual product page and is included on our product packaging. As per the FSA’s recent advice, you should not consume more than 70mg of CBD per day.

Infusing chocolate with CBD is a delicious way to enjoy the benefits of CBD in an easily digestible form. Both CBD and chocolate directly connect to our nervous system in a positive way, triggering the endorphin ‘anandamide’; an essential neurotransmitter that forms part of our body’s natural endocannabinoid system. The word anandamide originates from the Sanskrit language and roughly translates to “bliss” or “joy” and it’s this ‘bliss molecule’ that helps us unwind and feel calmer. Chocolate is also the perfect partner for CBD due to its high lipid (fat) content which can help enhance the absorption rate and effectiveness of CBD.

CBD oil UK law  - CBD is legal for use in the UK, providing it contains zero THC. CBD is non- intoxicating and therefore cannot get you high.

APOTHEM products are not suitable for those pregnant or breastfeeding.

Yes. Always tell your doctor if you're taking, or planning to take, CBD.

APOTHEM will not knowingly sell our products to anyone under the age of 18.

As per the FSA's recommendation, you should not take CBD alongside any other medication. Read our medical disclaimer.

APOTHEM recommends you should always check if CBD is legalised in the country and state you are travelling to before you travel

We are happy to confirm that APOTHEM products have been endorsed and added to the FSA’s published list of CBD products linked to novel food applications. The Novel Foods process is a rigorous one, ensuring the safety of consumable products and this new legislation brings welcome regulation to the CBD industry. It means that consumers can know and trust that what they are using is safe and of quality.

The process is lengthy, as with any new regulation, so it is broken down into phases starting with this list of all products linked to an accepted application. These products will then move through to a validation stage and finally approval.  Our team has worked hard to deliver a detailed application and demonstrate that our award-winning products meet the legal requirements to remain on sale in the UK.

We advise against giving our products to animals as they have only been made and tested for human consumption and use.

All of our products come with an expiry date and shelf-life identifier.

Whilst CBD isn't a known allergen, if you have any allergies or concerns we always recommend reading the ingredients list fully (you can find this on our packaging and product pages) and consulting your GP before use. You can also email us at hello@apothemlabs.com with any questions you may have.

Each of our CBD oil drops has a quick explanation of the taste profile on the product page. As we use the purest form of CBD (isolate) there is no grassy / hempy taste in any of our CBD oil drops and any flavours used are 100% natural.

Of course! Here at APOTHEM we work really hard to bring you the highest quality CBD oil products and you can rest assured we will never test our products on animals. Our products are triple-tested:

1. When the CBD isolate is made, to check for potency, pesticides, heavy metals, microbials;

2. Once we receive the batch of CBD, we send for further tests, testing the same as above;

3. Once we are happy that the pure CBD passes our standards, we start the product manufacturing, and send a sample to be independently tested for potency to ensure that the inside of the final product matches the label.

You can read more about our high standards and processes here.

We also conduct clinical or consumer perception studies to test the efficacy of our products and the benefits of CBD oil. You can read more about our product trials here.
